The Vulva:

The vulva is a grouping of most of the female external sexual organs of the crotch. These areas are as important to a woman as a penis is to the man. The better a couple understands each other’s anatomy the better the lover they will be.
Areas Of The Vulva:
Mons veneris is the area over the pelvic bone. This area becomes covered with pubic hair during puberty.
Hood of clitoris: The inner lips protect a delicate area called the vestibule that is located between them. At the top of the vestibule and just below the mons area the inner lips are located. The vulva and the internal lips are united to form a soft fold of skin, known as the hood, which covers and protects the delicate clitoris.
Clitoris: this is the most sensitive spot in the entire female genital area. Pronounced KLIT-or-iss, it is made of erectile tissue and it swells during sexual arousal.
Inner lips are known as the labia minora. With sexual stimulation the lips swell and turn darker as they fill with blood.
Outer lips are known as the labia majora. This is the hair-covered area located between the mons and the anus; it is made of soft fatty tissue.
Perineum is the space between the inner lips and the anus.
Vagina opening is the larger opening that is below the urethra. The vagina is also called the introitus and it is the birth canal. It connects the vulva to the womb (uterus).
Urethra opening is a small slit below the clitoris. The urethra is a thin tube about 1.5 inches long that connects to the bladder for disposal of the urine.
Anus is the ring of muscle at the end of your rectum. It is the opening to the rectum and colon, the last part of your intestines. The anus is the point where waste leaves your body when you have a bowel movement.

Over 2,500 years ago the ancient Greeks used the word “Kleitoris” as a description for a part of the female genitals, most likely the labia minora or inner lips of the vagina. In 1593, during the trial of a woman that had been accused of witchcraft, the inquisitor, who was a married man, discovered a clitoris for his first time. Seeing this “little lump of flesh sticking out about one-half inch,” he concluded that it must be the “Devil.s Teat”. The other inquisitors, who were equally ignorant, agreed. Unfortunately, ignorance resulted in conviction and execution for witchcraft. It wasn’t until 1615 that the word “clitoris “ first appeared in the English language. The word clitoris was used in an early anatomy book to describe a small, sensitive organ located below the upper apex of the labia minora. Unfortunately, those ancient Greeks, not unlike too many men of today, did not recognize the true beauty of the female genitalia. A vulva is like a rosebud, with its outer pedals hiding the pistil, which is the central organ of a flower containing the ovules. The clitoris is a magnificent bud in itself found within the vulva, below a pedal known as the hood of the clitoris.

Pelvic Organs:
The pelvic organs are the internal organs that make up the pelvis area, including the vagina, uterus (womb), fallopian tubes and the ovaries.

Uterus (womb): This organ has a thick muscular wall that is needed during pregnancy. The uterus is about the size of an orange when the woman isn’t pregnant.
Fallopian tubes: This is a 4” long tube that connects to the uterus.
Ovaries: Hundreds of eggs are contained in the ovaries. During a woman’s monthly ovulation an egg travels down the fallopian tube (a distance of about 4”) where the male sperm fertilizes it. The fertilized egg becomes buried in the rich tissue of the uterus (endometrium) and develops into a fetus.
Vagina: Considered an internal organ as the only opening is a part of the external genitalia. The vagina connects the vulva to the internal organs. It is a muscular, tubelike structure that is found between the urinary bladder in the front and the rectum in the back. The length of the vagina is generally two and one-half to four inches long from the vulva to the cervix. The vaginal walls touch each other when nothing is inside them. This amazing structure can expand large enough for a baby’s head or small enough for a finger, penis or tampon. Not only does it expand, but also it shapes and contracts around the object making a small, medium or large penis feel just right.
Vagina walls are made up of 3 tissue types. The inside wall is called the mucosa, and this tissue is similar to the inside of your mouth. Below this is a layer called the erectile tissue, it can fill with blood and will swell when a woman is sexually aroused. The deepest layer is a muscular coat that can relax or constrict as needed at the moment.
Cervix is the tissue that is checked by the doctor during a pap smear. It is the area that connects the uterus to the inside of the vagina.

hymen Female Genitalia DiagramThe hymen is a thin membrane that covers the vagina opening. This delicate piece of skin can stretch and break during intercourse. It was long believed the absence of a hymen meant that the woman was not a virgin but this often is not true. Popped her cherry is a slang term describing the breaking of the hymen. The hymen can break during vigorous exercise, while using a tampon or during masturbation.

For most women the hymen stretches easily but for others it does not. The stretching and tearing of the hymen will sometimes cause bleeding during or after intercourse.
