About the Female Condom

The Female Condom

The female condom is another good friend. This little friend is in the form of a polyurethane (plastic) sheath about 6.5 inches (17 cm) in length. It provides a reversible barrier method of birth control. She is a good pal that is inserted into the vagina prior to sex. The female condom wears two flexible rings, one ring is closed and the other open. The ring at the closed end of the sheath is inserted into the vagina, holding the condom in place. The ring on the other end of the sheath will remain outside the vulva at the entrance to the vagina. The outside ring acts as a guide during penetration and helps to prevent the sheath from bunching up in the vagina. The female condom collects semen before, during and after ejaculation, helping to keep sperm from entering the vagina to protect against pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and HIV. Silicon-based lubricant is on the inside of the condom, but additional lubrication can be used.

Even Grandma Has A Use For Condoms
When thinking about the proper use of condoms I am reminded of grandma and her pastor. One day, grandma’s pastor stopped by to visit her. He took a seat while she prepared him a cup of tea. As he sat facing her old pump organ, he noticed a cut glass bowl filled with water that was sitting on top of it. In the water floated a condom. When she returned with tea and cookies, they began to chat. The pastor tried to suppress his curiosity about the bowl of water and the floating item, but soon it got the better of him, and he could no longer resist. Granny, he said while pointing to the bowl, I wonder if you would tell me about this? Oh, yes, She replied, isn’t it wonderful? I was walking downtown last fall and I found this little package. The directions said to put it on the organ, keep it wet, and it would prevent disease. And you know I haven’t had a cold all winter!
