Condom Information

About Buddy The Male Condom

Male condoms are individually packaged sheaths of thin latex or plastic that cover the erect penis and collect sperm during intercourse. Most standard condoms unroll to about 7 ½ inches, which will cover the erect shaft of all but a few men. By covering the full shaft it helps to prevent skin-to-skin transmission of sexually transmitted infections. A ring at the open end of the condom helps to keep it from slipping off of the shaft during playtime.

The failure to use our little buddy the condom may result in a child one is not prepared for, or a sexually transmitted disease. While the risk of passing an STD during oral sex may not be as great as with vaginal or anal penetration, the risk is still life threatening. A wise person will protect the safety of himself and his partner by using our little buddy for all mutual sex involving the penis. Regardless of age, if we are wise we will maintain our friendship with the condom, at least until we are in a safe, permanent monogamous relationship. Other than total abstinence and safe monogamous relationships, the latex armored male condom provides the best protection against sexually transmitted infections and HIV.

Warning! Peanut Butter May Result In Pregnancy!
Oil Containing Foods such as peanut butter or whipped cream can help you become a parent. These foods may feed a hungry sole and be fun during oral sex and help make that big boy slide back and forth during intercourse but they also quickly destroy latex condoms.

Condom Effectiveness:
Proper use of the condom is extremely important. Studies have shown that when not used properly or consistently, or when inferior condoms are used, 12% of female partners will become pregnant compared to 8% for birth control pills, 18% for the diaphragm, 19% using withdrawal and 20% employing the rhythm method (where the woman tries to determine her periods of ovulation and abstains from sex during that period). Even a high-quality latex condom is consistently and properly used, 2% to 5% of condoms will break, burst, contain a small hole, or slip off during use. Though failures are experienced, the odds are greatly reduced by slipping on a little buddy. While the condom may not be perfect, it can often save your life. The FDA requires an entire lot of condoms to be discarded during manufacturing if a leak shows up in the equivalent of more than 4 per 1,000 condoms in the run.

Disease Prevention:
Short of holding an aspirin between one’s knees to prevent penetration, condoms have no equal when it comes to preventing the transfer of disease-causing microbes between sex partners. The condom shields the penis from cervical, vaginal, oral or rectal secretions. The partner is also protected from potentially infectious semen and lesions on the penis. The odds of transmitting disease are cut to nearly zero when condoms are used correctly and consistently. Each year 12 million Americans contract a sexually transmitted disease and about 3 million of these are teenagers. Chlamydia, the most common and among the least recognizable diseases, can lead to tubal scarring that many experts believe is a key factor in the quadrupling of tubal (ectopic) pregnancies where the egg is implanted outside of the uterus. During the last decade, AIDS is still on the increase in the U.S., particularly among women and gay men. Sexually transmitted diseases are close to 100% preventable with proper condom use. Latex condoms are so effective at blocking germs that, since 1987, the FDA has allowed condom boxes to list all the diseases condoms help avert. The FDA has now told companies that the message is so crucial, it should also be printed on the wrappers of individual condoms. While condom boxes may warn that the product is intended for vaginal sex, health officials state that condoms use is also crucial in anal and oral sex.

Where To Obtain Condoms:
As a father or a mother we should make our children aware of condoms and how to obtain them before they are needed. Many parents, even those that preach sexual abstinence, will have them at the house in a convenient location should their children choose to go against their wishes and have premarital sex. Male condoms are readily available for free and for purchase. Not only young people but also many adults find the acquisition of them embarrassing. One should not be embarrassed for they are making a responsible decision in acquiring condoms. My sweet little innocent niece asked, Uncle Terry, where do you purchase condoms? You must be kidding, I said. No, I am only familiar with the free ones they handed out at school and places like Planned Parenthood and other community health centers, family planning clinics and STD clinics, she replied. Gosh, I said, you can purchase condoms at many stores such as drug stores and supermarkets. Condoms are available from vending machines in many restaurants, bars and some service stations. If you get embarrassed easily or would like to obtain a variety pack you can always purchase condoms on the Internet.

When my son and nephew were about 15 we were visiting the drugstore and came upon the condom aisle. The boys asked, why are their so many different boxes of condoms? I replied, well you see the 3 pack? That’s a sample pack for a boy to use when he’s learning how to apply a condom. The boys then asked, What is the six pack for? I replied, Those are for newlyweds to take with them on their honeymoon. Unwilling to quit their questioning they then asked, Then what is the 12-pack for? I replied, That’s for couples that have been married a while, you have one for January, one for February, one for March and one for each of the remaining months of the year.
