Parent Child Sex Talk

Talking To Our Children About Sex:

As a nation we need to get over our hang-ups about sex and become more open in our discussions with our children. Sex talk is a responsibility that we cannot continue to leave to our schools alone. Some parents have done a good job of preaching abstinence but have failed to talk to their children about masturbation and the use of condoms. We will not significantly reduce birth rates by preaching abstinence alone or only by instilling our children with facts on STDs.

While abstinence and disease are important subjects that need to be regularly discussed, we also need to make our children aware that masturbation is a safe way of releasing our sexual tension. We also need our children to understand just how important it is to use a condom not just for water balloons but to also protect themselves and their partner should they choose to have premarital sex.

Start speaking to children about sex before they reach puberty. Sex is a subject that we must speak with our children about on a regular basis. As they progress in age we need to move our discussions up so that by the time they reach puberty they have a pretty good understanding of the birds and the bees.
